I just purchased a V Star earlier this week. I've read some problems others are experiencing with their V Star 1300 and would like to get your responses to each of them. Have you heard and/or experienced any of the problems? How did you correct the problem if you experienced it?The problems include:1) rust at the saddlebag welds that are noticed when the bags are taken off2) loud clutch noises when in neutral with the clutch released, rattling in the transmission when in neutral and off of the clutch3) valve noises, and4) engine and gear noise.Additionally, I understand there are two ways to break in a bike. Can anyone explain the two approaches and the thought behind both?

I took it in for 600 mile service told them about the noise. They didn't hear it, said it might be from thin oil they use for breakin period, and with the windshield it makes it so you hear more motor noise, they did there work and I took the bike, sounded ok, road another day about 20 minutes there is the tapping again. They didn't check the valves even though the manual says to.

Said they will check and adjust if I want but no gaurentee it will get rid of noise, and will cost about $300.00. I haven't listen to another bike that is the same. Is there anyone who has experienced anything like this noise? Also hear a whinning sound from trans or belt not sure, when going slow and when letting off gas.Louis. It might be a lawn mower; a new car; or even a motorcycle.Why? Because the owner's manual says to be careful and gives specific do's and don'ts. Because the tech at the dealer says to run the motor a certain way during breakin period. Because we've always been told to 'Break In' a motor.
